Defensive - Cameron Whitfield, Louisiana (RS Jr., LB) Ragin’ Cajuns Cameron Whitfield tied a single-game team record with 4 sacks in Louisiana’s 23-13 win. Special Teams - Clune Van Andel, Arkansas State (So., K) Red Wolves kicker Clune Van Andel kicked a 34-yard game-winner with 10 seconds left for an 18-16 win over South Alabama.

The weekend’s slate of games served as evidence why the Sun Belt Conference may be the best Group of Five conference in the nation, because the league is rife with parity. Look no further than Marshall’s 52-37 win over App State. The Mountaineers looked like they could be the cream of the crop in the league at one point this season – but now sit at 0-2 in league play. Coastal Carolina and Louisiana pick up conference wins and sit at 4-1, which propels them to the middle of the pack in the league.

Sun Belt Football 2024 Predictions
Change is the biggest storyline for most college football conferences in the 2024 season, but that's not the case in the Sun Belt. The 14-team league will maintain divisions and the same membership as it had in '23. Although the Sun Belt never made a New Year's Six bowl or earned a playoff spot in the four-team format, the recent conference changes could put this league as the best in the Group of 5 ranks. In the East, Appalachian State is the projected frontrunner after winning the division and losing 49-23 to Troy in the conference title game last season.

When you run as aggressive a passing offense as Georgia Southern does, turnovers are going to happen. They clearly have to happen less frequently for the Eagles, whose 31 turnovers were tied with Nebraska for the most in FBS. Another postseason berth is certainly possible, but should be more than that in Year 3 of the Clay Helton era? Georgia Southern threw the ball 62% of the time last season. So, quarterback play is massively important. Davis Brin, the starter in 2023, has moved on, so the job is open.

Sun Belt & ESPN Announce Updates to 2024 Football Schedule
The announcement includes kickoff times and network designations for games during the first three weeks of the season and all midweek games throughout 2024. It is the 13th-straight year that every Sun Belt home game will appear on an ESPN platform. “We are excited to build upon a banner 2023 season in which the Sun Belt defeated four autonomy five programs and produced a conference-record and national-best 12 Bowl Season participants,” said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill.
