Falcons vs. Buccaneers redux recap: The triumph in Tampa
The Falcons needed this one. Early on, it seemed like they might not get it. Late, it seemed like they might squander it. Instead, a team that is cursed to make every game interesting emerged with another major victory, one that saw individual moments of brilliance deliver the win. You can’t overstate what beating the Bucs here means for Atlanta. They’re 5-3 and in first place by a whole game, 2-0 against the Buccaneers for an ironclad head--to-head tiebreaker, and 4-0 against the NFC South.

On playing the Buccaneers so soon after just seeing them..."With it being in Tampa, you know each other so well, I think its almost an advantage for them on a short week. It evens it out a little bit." The injury update on ILB Troy Andersen. "Troy Anderson is going to practice. We'll get him out there and see how he moves. Obviously, Troy is a Ferrari. His game is based on being able to move fast and vicious and speed. What makes Troy special for us is his ability to run and be as healthy as possible."
Show MoreFalcons vs. Seahawks recap: Blown out beyond a shadow of a doubt
The Falcons came in with three straight wins against divisional opponents, sitting at 4-3 and atop the NFC South. The Seahawks were a better team than recent results had indicated, but it was reasonable to think this would be a hard-fought win or close loss. The fact that it wasn’t was equal parts jarring and alarming. The Falcons didn’t just lose this game, they got smoked in every phase of it. The offense was disjointed and leaned away from the run at its own peril, saw Cousins make a couple of huge mistakes.

On how Atlanta's two running backs, Tyler Allgeier and Bijan Robinson compliment each other and make it tough to slow down. "They're two really good backs . Both have been running this scheme for multiple years. Both see it really well, run it a little bit differently. One with a little bit more power. I think Robinson is more of a one cut guy. But, the compliment and the scheme go well hand in hand. It's a tough play to stop. Its not one of those things where its just one guy. It's all eleven guys in order to stop wide zone."
Show MoreFive things we learned from Falcons’ 38-20 win over the Panthers
At 4-2, the Falcons are off to their best start since the 2016 season, when the team reached Super Bowl 51. The Falcons leaned into their belief in one another to help them dismantle the Panthers 38-20 on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. It was their third straight victory, all against NFC South opponents. The special teams helped with a tipped punt, the offense pounded the ball in the rushing attack and the defense closed out the game with two interceptions.
Show MoreKirk Cousins tops 500 passing yards, leads Falcons past Bucs
The Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers established early that Thursday night's game would be an offensive slugfest with both teams scoring touchdowns on their first possessions, so it seemed fitting the NFC South showdown would be decided by a long TD pass. Kirk Cousins threw his fourth touchdown of the game, a 45-yard score to KhaDarel Hodge, who had entered the contest after an injury to Drake London, to give the Falcons a 36-30 overtime victory.
Show MoreKoo drills a 58-yard field goal to help Falcons defeat Saints, 26-24
Kicker Younghoe Koo made a 58-yard field goal, his fourth of the game, to lift the Falcons to a thrilling 26-24 NFC South win over the Saints on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The kick went through with :02 left on the clock. The Falcons improved to 2-2 on the season. The Saints dropped to 2-2. The Falcons had a last-ditch drive after the Saints took the league with 1:00 to play. Special teams and defense accounted for Atlanta's only touchdowns with Koo taking care of the other twelve points.
Show MoreThe Falcons go out swinging against the champs
The Atlanta Falcons dropped to 1-2 after a loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Atlanta went into the half with a 14-10 lead. Unfortunately, injuries and some self-inflicted wounds (earned and unearned) were too much for the team to overcome. The Falcons lost center Drew Dalman and right tackle Kaleb McGary in the second quarter, and the dynamic of the offense completely changed. Atlanta finally built some chemistry in the fourth quarter and started moving the ball again.
Show MoreAnalysis: Chiefs dominate in September games since Patrick Mahomes became QB1
No need to wake the Falcons up when September ends. They're already up. They were left with no other choice considering their schedule. "We have to step up to the challenge," Falcons safety Justin Simmons said. "End of story. You either rise to the occasion, or you fall." Atlanta 1-1, now entering a Week 3 contest against the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs. Then the Falcons face their currently undefeated NFC South rival in Week 4, when the Saints come to town.
Show MoreKirk Cousins' first Falcons win comes on last-minute 70-yd
game-winning drive
Immediately after Jessie Bates secured an improbable comeback, Falcons owner Arthur Blank could be seen on the sideline celebrating, a wide grin across his face. It was what Kirk Cousins had done in a magical minute and five seconds that made that smile possible. Cousins rallied the Falcons to defeat the Eagles, 22-21, in a remarkable victory on Monday night, hitting Drake London for a game-tying touchdown with only 34 seconds to play.
Show MoreKirk Cousins' issues have already sent Falcons' hype train off track
For first impressions, what a nightmare. The Atlanta Falcons supplied so much hope and hype in luring Kirk Cousins to town in March with a massive $180 million contract. For those type of bucks, with $100 million guaranteed on a four-year deal, prayers are supposed to be answered. Instead, Cousins looked too much like his discarded predecessors, Desmond Ridder and Marcus Mariota, as he stumbled and bumbled during his debut in a Falcons uniform. What an embarrassment.
Show MoreFalcons have no excuse not to shutdown Steelers pass attack
The Steelers should know exactly what to expect from their offense in 2024; all they have to do is look at the 2023 Falcons. The two offenses are nearly identical. Both have/had Arthur Smith calling plays, similar wide receivers, and two good running backs. Unfortunately, that means the Steelers are going to struggle mightily through the air. With the Falcons hosting them Sunday, all they need s play physical with Pickens, get him frustrated, stop the run, and watch the Russell Wilson-led offense implode.
