Loss to Broncos shows Falcons need a reset
The Falcons got their "butts kicked" Sunday. And those aren't my words. They are the words of head coach Raheem Morris. "(The Broncos) absolutely went out there and beat us with their effort and their physicality," Morris said. "… The whole game was about physicality and effort, and they out-physical'd us. They out-effort'd us. They absolutely won that game." Morris words are true. In every way that matters, the Falcons were beat pretty significantly by the Denver Broncos.

"You have to compartmentalize the game," talking about the Saints loss. "You don't just forget about two big plays that cost you, but you also can't let it define your entire performance Every week is a new challenge," he noted, recognizing Denver's strengths. "They have playmakers on both sides of the ball, and we need to be ready for anything they throw at us. I don't need to be the smartest person in the building, It's about bringing out the best in everyone around me."
Show MoreAs usual, Falcons-Saints matchup peculiar to the last
The normally clutch kicker had a hat trick of misses. The team whose defense had been getting steamrolled regularly held the team with the full-functioning offense to seven n the first half. The running back who was arguably the best player on the field dropped what would have been a game-clinching pass. And the banged up team with the 7-game losing streak, and had just gotten its coach fired, gave a deserved defeat to the team that had won 5 of its previous 6 and appears headed to the playoffs.

Raheem Morris didn't have to search for inspiration to present to his team in their weekly meetings as Week 9 began. He didn't have to uncover a new message to motivate them. He already had a muse in mind as the Falcons prepped to face Dallas Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Morris reminded the team of their 34-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7. It was one of their most complete performances, with offense, defense and special teams stepping up consistently.

“Every year is different,” he stated. “The Falcons are a well-coached team, and we respect their capabilities.” “We need to be disciplined. Their playmakers can change the game in an instant. We have to be ready for anything.” This highlighted his awareness of the Falcons’ explosive potential, particularly their ability to score quickly. "You can’t overlook their quarterback,” he said, acknowledging the talent that could disrupt their game plan. “He’s capable of making big throws under pressure.”
Show MoreFalcons vs. Buccaneers redux recap: The triumph in Tampa
The Falcons needed this one. Early on, it seemed like they might not get it. Late, it seemed like they might squander it. Instead, a team that is cursed to make every game interesting emerged with another major victory, one that saw individual moments of brilliance deliver the win. You can’t overstate what beating the Bucs here means for Atlanta. They’re 5-3 and in first place by a whole game, 2-0 against the Buccaneers for an ironclad head--to-head tiebreaker, and 4-0 against the NFC South.
Show MoreFalcons vs. Seahawks recap: Blown out beyond a shadow of a doubt
The Falcons came in with three straight wins against divisional opponents, sitting at 4-3 and atop the NFC South. The Seahawks were a better team than recent results had indicated, but it was reasonable to think this would be a hard-fought win or close loss. The fact that it wasn’t was equal parts jarring and alarming. The Falcons didn’t just lose this game, they got smoked in every phase of it. The offense was disjointed and leaned away from the run at its own peril, saw Cousins make a couple of huge mistakes.
Show MoreFive things we learned from Falcons’ 38-20 win over the Panthers
At 4-2, the Falcons are off to their best start since the 2016 season, when the team reached Super Bowl 51. The Falcons leaned into their belief in one another to help them dismantle the Panthers 38-20 on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. It was their third straight victory, all against NFC South opponents. The special teams helped with a tipped punt, the offense pounded the ball in the rushing attack and the defense closed out the game with two interceptions.
Show MoreKirk Cousins tops 500 passing yards, leads Falcons past Bucs
The Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers established early that Thursday night's game would be an offensive slugfest with both teams scoring touchdowns on their first possessions, so it seemed fitting the NFC South showdown would be decided by a long TD pass. Kirk Cousins threw his fourth touchdown of the game, a 45-yard score to KhaDarel Hodge, who had entered the contest after an injury to Drake London, to give the Falcons a 36-30 overtime victory.
Show MoreKoo drills a 58-yard field goal to help Falcons defeat Saints, 26-24
Kicker Younghoe Koo made a 58-yard field goal, his fourth of the game, to lift the Falcons to a thrilling 26-24 NFC South win over the Saints on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The kick went through with :02 left on the clock. The Falcons improved to 2-2 on the season. The Saints dropped to 2-2. The Falcons had a last-ditch drive after the Saints took the league with 1:00 to play. Special teams and defense accounted for Atlanta's only touchdowns with Koo taking care of the other twelve points.
Show MoreThe Falcons go out swinging against the champs
The Atlanta Falcons dropped to 1-2 after a loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Atlanta went into the half with a 14-10 lead. Unfortunately, injuries and some self-inflicted wounds (earned and unearned) were too much for the team to overcome. The Falcons lost center Drew Dalman and right tackle Kaleb McGary in the second quarter, and the dynamic of the offense completely changed. Atlanta finally built some chemistry in the fourth quarter and started moving the ball again.
Show MoreAnalysis: Chiefs dominate in September games since Patrick Mahomes became QB1
No need to wake the Falcons up when September ends. They're already up. They were left with no other choice considering their schedule. "We have to step up to the challenge," Falcons safety Justin Simmons said. "End of story. You either rise to the occasion, or you fall." Atlanta 1-1, now entering a Week 3 contest against the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs. Then the Falcons face their currently undefeated NFC South rival in Week 4, when the Saints come to town.
