Another Nail Biting Come From Behind Win 20-10 at Auburn

By Don Stone, Football Atlanta

Where have we heard this story before? Georgia falls behind early getting dominated in the first quarter only to flip the switch and turn things around with a come from behind win.

It wasn’t pretty, but Georgia did what championship-caliber teams do — found a way to win when things weren’t going its way.

After trailing for more than three quarters, the #10 Bulldogs rallied late for a 20–10 victory over Auburn Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium, staying alive in the SEC and keeping their College Football Playoff hopes intact.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton didn’t blink when the Bulldogs needed him most.

Trailing late on the road in one of college football’s loudest venues, Stockton led a resilient Georgia comeback as the Dawgs rallied past Auburn 20–10 Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The redshirt junior, making his third career start, threw for 212 yards and a 10 yard rushing touchdown with just 1:53 left in the game.

“It wasn’t easy, but he kept us in it,” head coach Kirby Smart said. “Gunner showed poise, toughness, and leadership — exactly what you need on the road in this league.”

Georgia struggled early against an Auburn defense that brought relentless pressure. The Bulldogs failed to find rhythm through the first half, settling for a lone field goal from Peyton Woodring after a 13-play drive stalled at the Tigers’ 12-yard line.

The defining play came late in the third quarter, when Auburn, leading 10–3 and threatening to extend its advantage, fumbled at the goal line with CJ Allen scooping it up turning it over to Georgia. The Bulldogs started moving the ball for the first time and came away with a field goal to make it 10-3 at the half.

The defense stepped up from there and tossed a shutout with Georgia outscoring Auburn 20-0 after falling behind 10-0.

The Tigers shot themselves in the foot with over a hundred yards in penalties repeatedly stopping drives and extending ones for UGA.

A huge SEC matchup is next as the (5-1, 3-1 SEC) Bulldogs return to Athens to host No. 4 Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0) with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC. ESPN’s Gameday will be in town for the game.

“We’ve got another tough test coming,” Smart said. “But tonight showed what kind of team we are.”
