The crowd was electric at the beginning of the game setting an all-time attendance record at 11,040 inside Fifth Third Stadium.
In Kennesaw State’s first ever FBS home game, the scoring was early and often. The early part was the Owls who took the opening drive 74 yards downfield on 16 plays for a 7-0 lead. The Ragin’ Cajuns made some adjustments and stifled them moving forward.
Unfortunately, the often part came from Louisiana, who proceeded to put the foot down on any more KSU offense…instead pouring on the yardage and points consistently from that point on.
By the end of the first half, the LU had scored 27 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0, holding the Owls scoreless since their opening drive.
Louisiana dominated the half with 245 total yards to 141. Half of the 141 came in that opening drive.
By game’s end, the Ragin’ Cajuns put up 449 yards of total offense to 204 from KSU in a lopsided 34-10 defeat.
Senior quarterback Ben Woolridge wound up with 14 of 18 and 184 yards with one touchdown.
The ground game was what really made the difference as the Owls had no answer for the rushing attack of Elijah “Bill” Davis with 80 yards and two touchdowns and senior running back Zylan Perry with 104 yards rushing.
As a team, the Owls barely topped him with 111 total.
Senior tight end Preston Daniels had the only TD with QB Davis Bryson throwing for just 93 yards.
It doesn’t get any easier as KSU heads back on the road for a game at 2-0 San Jose State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
The Spartans have outscored their two opponents by a combined score of 59-31.
That one will be televised on TruTV and Max.
