Kennesaw State Owls Football Stories
Owls Unable to Cool Spartans,
Fall 31-10
Despite forcing three turnovers in the first half, penalties and miscues stymied Kennesaw State football's momentum as it fell 31-10 to San Jose State on Saturday night at CEFCU Stadium. Quarterback Davis Bryson finished with 128 yards passing on 14-of-22 passing to end the game, while running back Qua Ashley hauled in four receptions for 51 yards to tie his career high. The Owls will enter a much-needed bye week before hosting UT Martin for Homecoming at Fifth Third Stadium on Saturday,

We're ready to play another good football team, another bowl team that's won a lot of games. Obviously, (Ken) Niumatalolo is their head coach. He and I are good friends, lived down the street from each other for six years at the Naval Academy. They played two games, opened at Sacramento State, which was a big game for them. A lot of momentum changes, then San Jose pulled away late. Then they went to Air Force. They won 17-10. Quarterback's a transfer. They keep their defense really active.

Looking forward to Kennesaw State coming in. Very familiar with their program. The head coach and I worked together for six years at the Naval Academy. We were neighbors. I know him really well. Good ball coach. He started that program from the ground up. They were an FCS perennial playoff team. Now, they're making the transition. They have really good players. Being right there in Atlanta, there's a ton of good players in that area. It's going to be a tough game for us. Our kids aren't too familiar with them.
Show MoreOwls Drop First Ever FBS Home Game To Ragin’ Cajuns 34-10
The crowd was electric at the beginning of the game setting an all-time attendance record at 11,040 inside Fifth Third Stadium. In KSUs first ever FBS home game, the scoring was early and often. The early part was the Owls who took the opening drive 74 yards downfield on 16 plays for a 7-0 lead. Unfortunately, the often part came from Louisiana, who proceeded to put the foot down on any more KSU offense…scoring 27 unanswered points before the Owls tacked on a meaningless late field goal.

Players of The Week
Sam Houston’s Hunter Watson and Christian Pavon, along with NM State’s Tayden Barnes, earned the first CUSA Player of the Week honors of the season. Watson earned the start in the season opener and showed why, staying in control of the game throughout Saturday evening in leading the Kats to a 34-14 win at Rice. Barnes came up with one of the biggest plays of the Aggies’ 23-16 season-opening win over SEMO with a game-sealing interception on the Redhawks’ final possession.
Show MoreKSU's Comeback Bid Stalls Late, Falling 28-16 to UTSA
With 7:44 left in fourth quarter, Kennesaw State football began its drive trailing by just five points, but a tough-luck turnover stalled its momentum, falling 28-16 to UTSA Saturday at the Alamodome. In his second career start, Davis Bryson finished 14-for-28 for 202 yards and a touchdown – all career highs. Carson Kent led all receivers with three catches for 40 yards and a touchdown, while redshirt junior wideouts Gabriel Benyard and Tykeem Wallace finished with 39 and 38 receiving yards, respectively.
Show MoreOwls’ Top Returning Players in 2024 Include JeRico Washington Jr., Michael Benefield
The Kennesaw State Owls are hoping to become the next FCS-to-FBS success story, but times might be rough in 2024. With a transitional offense and a general difficulty in adding and retaining talent, the Owls could struggle early. Who are KSU’s top returning players? Michael Benefield was dominant enough last season to secure the clear No. 1 spot in 2023. In this run-heavy attack without much quarterback experience, he’ll be vital to the team’s success.
