In a stunning playoff quarterfinal, Ole Miss made Georgia’s promising season come crashing to a grinding halt as they upset the #3 Dawgs 39-34. Trinity Chambliss led a late game winning surge after the Bulldogs had tied the game at 34 with just 59 seconds left in regulation.
The Rebels seized control with a disciplined, high-tempo attack, then fended off Georgia’s surge to seal a victory that will reverberate through the SEC.
“A lot of credit goes to Ole Miss, the defensive improvements they made. They played much better and tougher and more physical on defense, created some problems for us,” said head coach Kirby Smart. “And their quarterback is just incredible. I mean, he does an unbelievable job of not giving up sacks and making plays with his legs. They made more plays than we did; and I’ve got to be honest, that’s part of football. They outexecuted us, outcoached us, outplayed us. But I enjoyed that game and that atmosphere. I am proud of our team. I’m sick that we lost, and there’s things I would love to go back and do differently. But I’m just so proud of the way our guys competed when down ten, and just didn’t finish it.”
Chambliss, the breakout star of the night, kept his composure as the crowd swelled and Georgia clawed back.
UGA showed flashes of resilience in a back-and-forth second half. A late field goal cut the deficit to a single score, and the crowd roared as the Bulldogs mounted a final push.
The Dawgs looked good in the first half taking a nine point lead into the third quarter. But, the inability to bring Chambliss down in the backfield was the difference.

The Bulldogs had a chance with a first and goal at the ten but were unable to get it into the end zone having to settle for a game tying field goal that left the Rebels with the ball under a minute and no timeouts.
The defense, which had played so well in the final month of the season let Ole Miss drive down field for the game winning score.
Fans were anticipating a matchup in the Fiesta Bowl Semifinals with Gunner Stockton facing off against former UGA quarterback Carson Beck and his current team, Miami. But, that will have to be left up to the what ifs.
For Georgia, the loss marks a painful exit from playoff contention got the second straight season, both in the Sugar Bowl. ,
Ole Miss celebrated in the locker room as fans poured onto the sidewalks outside the stadium, chanting Chambliss’s name and the Rebels’ signature creed: belief, preparation, and a willingness to seize the moment. “This is what we worked for,” Chambliss said, eyes flashing with the pride of a win that will be etched into the season’s most memorable moments. “We earned this together.”
