The Georgia Bulldogs will host the Charlotte 49ers in their final home game of the 2025 regular season on Saturday at Sanford Stadium, aiming to solidify their top-tier standing before the postseason. Ranked No. 4 nationally, the Bulldogs (9-1) under head coach Kirby Smart have enjoyed a standout season led by quarterback Gunner Stockton, whose leadership and offensive execution have been central to Georgia’s success.
Stockton has thrown for over 2,200 yards this season with 19 touchdown passes against only 3 interceptions. He has also rushed for 350 yards taking 8 carries across the goal line. The Bulldogs’ offense averages almost 33 points per game, nearly double what the defense has given up. That ranks among the nation’s best in scoring and total offense with over 428 yards per game.
Charlotte enters the contest with a 1-9 record, having struggled all season but showing resilience in close games. The 49ers are the reverse of the Dawgs with an average just 16.9 points per game on offense and allow over twice that at 37.4 points per game defensively. Their lone win came in an upset victory early in the season. They are coming off a 27-8 home loss to UTSA.
“I respect their effort and toughness,” said a Charlotte coaching source. “We know playing at Sanford Stadium is a huge challenge, but we’ll give it everything we have.”
On defense, UGA has given up just over 18 points per game this season, a slight concern compared to their offensive dominance. The Bulldogs know they must tighten up to prevent any upset opportunities.
The Bulldogs have altered a frustrating early season pattern of getting off to slow starts, then shifting into a new gear to close strong and pull games out in the end. The played complete games in each of their last two contests, both against SEC opponents…first doubling up Mississippi State 41-21 in Starkville, then tripling then #10 Texas in Athens last week 35-10.
Don’t feel too bad for Charlotte. UGA is paying the 49ers $1.9 million for the non-conference matchup, the largest single-game payout in 49ers’ history. Cupcakes have gotten expensive!
Their SEC schedule is complete with an impressive 7-1 conference record. But, it may not be enough to make it to the SEC Championship Game. They need either #3 Texas A&M to lose next week to Texas or #10 Alabama to lose at unranked Auburn.
Kickoff is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. on the SEC Network, with Sanford Stadium expected to be packed as the Bulldogs look to cap their home schedule with a dominant performance ahead of the regular season rivalry finale against a 9-1 improved tough Georgia Tech team that is one win away from making it to the ACC Championship Game with a win Saturday against Pitt.
