There are several Georgia
Tech Yellow Jacket connections in this week's NFC Championship Game with the
Falcons.
* There are three former Georgia Tech
players on the Atlanta Falcons roster. Fullback Mike Cox and
defensive tackle Vance Walker are on the active roster. WR Kevin
Cone is on injured reserve.
*
Falcons
offensive line coach Pat Hill was the last coach to beat Georgia Tech
before Paul Johnson came on board.
Hill was the head coach at Fresno State in 2007 when his Bulldogs beat
interim Tech coach Jon Tenuta and the Yellow Jackets 40-28
in the Humanitarian Bowl.
* The radio voice of the Falcons, Wes
Durham, is also the radio voice of Georgia Tech.
* The first Georgia Tech player drafted
by the Falcons was WR Jimmy Robinson in 1975.
Robinson is currently the wide receivers coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
* The most recent Yellow Jacket drafted
by Atlanta was Vance Walker in 2009. Walker was a seventh-round
selection.
* One of the more prominent Tech grads
to play for the Falcons was Keith Brooking, who played 11 seasons in
Atlanta, from 1998-08.
* Since 1970, the Falcons have drafted
six Georgia Tech players, tying the Baltimore franchise for the most Yellow
Jackets
taken by an NFL team since '70.
* In the AFC Championship game, Patriots
tight ends coach is George Godsey, one of Georgia Tech's most
prolific quarterbacks.
*
Former
Yellow Jacket Anthony Allen is on the Baltimore Ravens' active
roster.
* Ravens Vice President of Football
Administration
Pat Moriarty played football at
Georgia Tech in the mid-1970s.
* James Liipfert, who played his
senior season under Paul Johnson at Tech in 2008, is an area scout for the
New England Patriots.
